Marble vs Steel

Location : na

Status : Completed end 2010

Marble vs Steel. Steel plates are used as legs and also as a supporting skeleton. An intricate detail is discreetly visible in the legs. Two cladded in marble, mimicing a marble mass and the others in visible steel, thin and light. An angular detail acts as a stiffening support. The base, a metal plate, has various circular perforations to reduce weight from the steel plate while enhancing the whole weight distribution. Underside this base plate two steel sections were done to reduce deflection and sway from the weight of the 20mm brown stone marble top. The steel was finished in black water based lacquer. The Marble selected was here a horizontal plane, linking to the vertical plane used to clad a coloumn in the pathway. As a final detail non-compressible rubber mountings were installed on underside of dining table legs.
