Set over a large basement garage, ground floor living areas, first floor bedrooms and a roof study and utility room, the semi-detached villa gears itself to satisfy the detail-oriented couple’s brief. Designed specifically with natural light and ventilation in mind, the building has: custom designed skylights and ventilators for all the garage floor retaining garden and living areas at grade with each other; slits and skylights within the building fabric that sensitively control light by orientation and shading; inbuilt natural cross ventilators reminiscent of authentic Maltese architectural features. Based on sustainability the project ground floor cladding and flooring are to be sourced on site by micro quarrying of the site not to put to waste excavated rock, whilst services installed include a grey water recirculation system, solar water heating and panels coupled with extensive insulation.
